CALES is committed to delivering on the promise of our land-grant mission — ensuring Wildcats who enter our college feel a sense of belonging, are supported, and that they, too, can put science to work. Together, what we do here can impact the world over.
Funding priorities
To fulfill our land-grant promise, we focus on three core areas where our research, education, and community outreach intersect to make the greatest difference.
Arid environments make up more than 35% of the world and are home to the fastest growing populations on the planet. In the hot and water-scarce Southwest, we’re working to help communities adapt to a drier future—from wildfire management to supporting ecological biodiversity, from developing new technologies to get the most out of every drop of water to innovative solutions to sustainable agriculture and food.
While there are many different definitions of “wellness,” we take a holistic approach that meets people where there are and helps them get where they want to be. From nutrition and food security to preventing infectious and chronic disease, personal and financial planning to growing healthy and supportive families. It’s about lifestyle medicine and understanding that lifelong well-being is intrinsically linked to the health of our environments, economies and communities.
We are committed to expanding economic opportunity for our students and their families. Our goal is for 100% of our entering students to complete their degree. We offer support to match their individual needs because we recognize that students arrive to our programs from different backgrounds, with different learning styles, and their own unique financial and personal challenges. Tailored support is what we do to level the playing field and facilitate equal opportunity.
Ways to give
Your support is vital to maintaining the world-class academics and research of the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences. We'll work with you to design a giving approach that reflects your philanthropic goals.
Direct monetary support is appreciated to help us continue the important work of CALES. Donations are accepted online by credit card or through the mail as a personal check, cashier’s check or money order.
An endowed gift supports CALES in perpetuity by establishing a permanent account, the interest from which generates a funding stream to support the program or initiative of your choice. Endowments can be made through cash, appreciated securities, real estate, etc. or can be part of your estate planning with a bequest or an income generating gift annuity.
Create your legacy through a planned gift, which can help you meet current philanthropic goals and extend your generosity into the future. A planned gift can also protect your assets, provide for your family and give you income for life.
Accepted appreciated securities include stocks, bonds and mutual funds. The simplest and most efficient way to make a gift of any security is to instruct your broker to transfer the security to the University of Arizona Foundation for the benefit of the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences.
Gifts of real estate are sold quickly and converted into cash or used in connection with a University of Arizona program. Types of accepted real estate include vacant land, residential property and commercial property. Improved property with mortgages can be accepted if the loan is 50% or less of the appraised value and can be sold quickly.
Many companies match the charitable contributions of their employees. If you work for a matching-gift company, your gift to CALES could be worth two, three or even four times as much. In most cases, using this benefit is as easy as contacting your Human Resources department.
Another way to support CALES is through gifts of tangible personal property. When the gift relates to the charitable purpose of the UA, you may be eligible for a deduction equal to the full fair market value of the item. Gifts include computer equipment, automobiles, furnishings, precious minerals, livestock and machinery.
