NOTE: Per part IV. B. 3. d. ii. of the Arizona General Permit,
Permittees must inform manure or wastewater recipients of R18-9-402.
In addition, according to part IV. B. 3. d. I., permittees must
provide to the recipient the nutrient values expected to be found
in the manure or process wastewater. Complete this sheet and give
to manure recipients to comply with these rules.
R18-9-402. Agricultural general permits: nitrogen
fertilizers
All persons who engage in the application of nitrogen fertilizers
are issued an agricultural general permit and shall comply with
the agricultural best management practices listed in the Section.
A person who engages in the application of nitrogen fertilizer pursuant
to an agricultural general permit shall comply with all of the following:
- Application of nitrogen fertilizer shall be limited to that
amount necessary to meet projected crop plant needs.
- Application of nitrogen fertilizer shall be timed to coincide
as closely as possible to the periods of maximum crop plant uptake.
- Application of nitrogen fertilizer shall be by a method designed
to deliver nitrogen to the area of maximum crop plant uptake.
- Application of irrigation water to meet crop plant needs shall
be managed to minimize nitrogen loss by leaching and runoff.
- The application of irrigation water shall be timed to minimize
nitrogen loss by leaching and runoff.
- The operator shall use tillage practices that maximize water
and nitrogen uptake by crop plants.
