College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona

Debate
Two individuals or groups discussing opposing views on a topic.
Symposium
Chairperson normally opens meeting with stage setting remarks. Two or more speakers deliver formal talks on the subject.
Panel Discussion
A small group sits around or along a table in the presence of an audience and discusses a topic for which they have a special knowledge.
Colloquy
A few members from the audience stimulate discussion by presenting the problem to a group of experts on the stage. A moderator keeps the process moving and involves all of the experts and as many of the audience as possible.
Forum
A formal stage presentation from which opportunity is given members of the audience to ask questions and make comments. These questions and comments usually come after the lecturer or symposium members have given their presentation.
