Problem Solving and Its Relationship to Application of Learning

What is meant by teaching for problem solving?  It is nothing more than building teaching upon real life problems and then activily involving students seeking intelligent answers to these problems.  Effective teachers use the process of "solving the problem" to teach students how to think, how to reason, and how to make decisions.
