AREC Club

Allied Scholars for Animal Protection educates, trains, and supports students in the field of human and nonhuman animal protection, providing the infrastructure, organization, and resources that enable students to effectively advocate for both human and nonhuman animals. ASAP’s main purpose is to bring education and awareness on this important issue and to promote lifestyle changes that prevent animal cruelty, are beneficial for public health, and benefit the environment.

The Biosystems Engineering Club is dedicated to the introduction and exploration of Biosystems Engineering to undergraduate engineering students and anyone else interested in Biosystems Engineering. Club activities include social events, lab tours, guest speakers, and design projects within subjects such as controlled environment agriculture, IoT, sensors and controls, automation, and robotics.

In CEASA, students get integrated into controlled environment agriculture through hands-on building and growing in hydroponics systems with produce ranging from leafy greens, tomatoes, jalapenos, peppers, strawberries, basil, and whatever students want to grow. In addition, a variety of guest speakers will come in to talk about their research, classes, experiences and more. Students will have the opportunity to get involved in greenhouses other than CEASA’s main one, as well as contribute to the university community with Campus Pantry produce donations, and get experience at the Tucson Village Farmers Market.

Financial Planning Club’s purpose is to identify opportunities for students to engage with active practitioners in financial planning and related professions and to facilitate a more seamless transition from school into the professional environment. The Plant Futures Initiative (PF) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to equipping and empowering the next generation of ethical leaders and entrepreneurs in the plant-centric food system. Our chapter programming consists of community building around food systems curriculum and experiential learning that create more authentic, meaningful, and effective career and impact development beyond college campuses.

We to leverage on-campus funding opportunities like the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) to enhance access to clean, organic foods. Our plans include developing food forests, hosting markets, and organizing campus food truck festivals featuring plant-based foods.

Are you pre-vet, pre-med, or pre-dental? Every year we go on a trip to Central America. Next year, we are traveling to Guatemala to provide veterinary, medical, and dental care to rural communities. As a club, we meet weekly and have hands-on opportunities to learn skills like vitals, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, animal restraint, dosage calculations, and many other essential clinical skills. We also have several guest speakers from these pre-health professions, we do case studies, and have many opportunities to network with professionals in the pre-health professions. You do not need to go on the trip to be in the club!
