Exemplary Program Evaluations

Extension's capacity to evaluate community-based programs has increased dramatically. In 2001, the increased capacity was first documented and celebrated. Each year more programs have been recognized. CYFERnet-Evaluation collaborators at the University of Arizona and Virginia Tech solicited nominations of State Strengthening and New Communities Projects that conducted exemplary program evaluations.

These programs have been selected for recognition because they show evidence, through the use of innovative evaluation strategies, of making a difference in the lives of children, youth, families or communities. Programs were selected from each of the four national outcome areas: children, youth, parent/family and community.

2003 Missouri's Irondale Community Computing Lab was recognized for:
Its skill-based evaluation of the development of computer skills by lab users.
2002 Two community-based programs were recognized:

Alabama's Beginning Education Early (BEE) is recognized for innovative presentation of evaluation results to project stakeholders.

New York's Youth Voices is recognized for youth involvement in evaluation and for their thorough evaluation plan.
2001 Arizona, Indiana, Montana, Nevada and Utah were recognized for:

Specific research-based goals and objectives
Services and activities that are directly related to goals and objectives
Evaluation, data collection and reporting directly related to the goals and objectives
Sufficient numbers of people who participated in the evaluation without a great deal of attrition
Baseline data and/or the use of comparison groups, and
Comparisons of baseline data to data collected later in the program. These evaluations also included tests for statistical significance where appropriate.
