No. 48, November/December 2000
Linkages between Cultural Diversity and Biodiversity
In southern Sonora, Mexico, Mayo Indians requested the ICBG project to host a workshop to recover the indigenous process of roasting hearts of maguey (Agave spp.) plants. As a result, many younger Mayos had their first chance to prepare and sample a long-abandoned traditional food. In addition, different species of maguey were identified for inclusion in a future community nursery and their conservation requirements were studied. |
