John Daws received his undergraduate education at Wake Forest University, and his doctorate from the University of Illinois in 1993. As a quantitative psychologist, his research involved exploratory data analysis, including multidimensional scaling (MDS) and cluster analysis. For more than ten years, he taught at New York University and Columbia University, covering a variety of graduate and undergraduate statistics and methodology courses. Before and after his academic career, he worked as an evaluator in a community mental health center, in a nutrition education program, in a child psychiatric center, and for an HIV-AIDS health planning group.
A resident of Arizona since 2005, Dr. Daws has taken a particular interest in the evaluation of health and education programs. His work has dealt with such topics as youth access to tobacco, the Arizona Health Survey (AHS), geographical information systems (GIS), health-insurance coverage, childhood dental health, and tobacco-tax evasion. Recently, his work has focused on preschool health and education. He is a member of the team who work with First Things First to support the development of young children and their families throughout Arizona.
