Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native Life Cycle: Perennial
General Desc: Several spreading stems which are covered with white hairs.
Identification notes: Stems several, ascending or spreading. Stems and leaves densely covered with fine, short hairs. Leaves egg-shaped, bright green on both sides. Flower petals about twice as long as the sepals or more. Only one species of Tetraclea in Arizona.
Height: 1 to 3 feet

Habitat

Habitat Description: Rocky soils. Steep south-facing talus slopes and roadsides.
Plant Communities: Desert Scrub, Interior Chaparral, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Disturbed Areas
Elevation: 2000 - 5200 feet

Flower Characteristics

Color: White to reddish-pink Shape: Regular in round clusters Tubular: Y Flowering Period: Mar - Sep
Description: Creamy-white flowers are tinged with reddish-pink. Flower clusters are at the leaf axils and are nocturnal.

Leaf Description: The upper leaves are toothed, while the lower are smooth.

Fruit Type: Nutlet
Fruit Notes: Wrinkly green fruit has 4 rounded lobes.
Seed Notes: Light brown seeds have a pitted surface.
