Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Perennial
General Desc: Erect or spreading perennial; creeping rhizomes; sticky-hairy plant with short, glandular hairs and slender, spreading hairs; leaf blades round to heart-shaped; bearing 1 stalked, bell-shaped, yellowish flower with a purplish-brown center.
Identification notes: Perennial, creeping rhizomes, stems usually branched from the base; leaf blades mostly 2 inches long or more, usually coarsely toothed, rounded to heart-shaped; herbage with short glandular hairs and long flat hairs; flowers yellowish, purple near center.
Height: 8 to 36 inches


Habitat

Habitat Description: Dry upland woods or sandy soil, clearings, prairies, and is found in cultivated and fallow fields, along roadsides and railroads.
Plant Communities: Desert Scrub, Interior Chaparral, Semidesert Grasslands, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest, Disturbed Areas
Elevation: 4000 - 7000 feet


Flower Characteristics

Color: Yellowish, purplish-brown     Shape: Bell-shaped not in clusters     Tubular: Y     Flowering Period: Jun - Oct
Description: Flowers usually solitary, hanging down; 5 petals, sepals, or tepals; petals or sepals are fused into cup; lobes triangular, margins straight or slightly curved inward; corolla yellowish, bell-shaped, purplish-brown near center, 3/4 inch wide; 5 stamens.
