Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native Life Cycle: Annual
General Desc: Diffusely branched delicate annual forb with basal leaves in a compact rosette. Small flowers are borne on stems in loose racemes.
Identification notes: Petals almost distinct, the tube is very short. Anthers are very minute, no more than 0.3 mm long. Lower stems are purplish or brownish.
Height: 10 to 12 inches

Habitat

Habitat Description: Dry slopes, rocky basalt, limestone and sandy soils, dry washes.
Plant Communities: Interior Chaparral, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Riparian
Elevation: 3500 - 5000 feet

Flower Characteristics

Color: White to purplish Shape: Irregular in elongated clusters Tubular: Y Flowering Period: Mar - May
Description: Flowers are white with 3 upper petal lobes tipped with purple, 2 lower petal lobes are white.

Leaf Color: Green Leaf Type: Simple Leaf Shape: Round or oval Leaf Margin: Toothed Leaf Attachment: Basal and alternate Leaves Clasp: N

Leaf Description: Basal leaves are mostly oblanceolate, toothed or pinnatifid, and 1/2 to 1 inch long. Lower parts of stems are purplish or brownish.

Fruit Notes: Seed capsules are slender and cylindrical, with distinct, somewhat flattened longitudinal ridges.
