Ecotourism in Drylands

This picture shows a small watershed near the town of Douiret, Tunisia, terraced with traditional earthen dikes (jessour). These dikes, used since ancient times, capture water runoff and silt during the region's erratic rains. By this means, small terraces are created for growing crops and fruit trees that would normally struggle (or be unable) to survive in this arid climate. | ![]() |
