Ecotourism in Drylands
[Note: Pictures copyright ASNAPED.]
The Berber town of Douiret, Tunisia, was originally settled at least a thousand years ago. This picture shows the ruins of the town's ancient fortress (ksar) at the very top of the hill. The white building showing clearly below the fortress is the town's mosque. A little further below, and to the right, the previous headquarters of the former Governor of the French Authorities can be seen. The white structures that can be seen in the bottom part of the picture are traditional grave monuments (marabous) constructed to honor religious figures. |
