Passport and Visa Information
Passport
- You can start the application process by reading the following information from the U.S. State Department
- You can apply for a passport or submit a passport renewal request here
Visas
A visa is usually an entry stamp placed in your passport. This allows you entry into a foreign country. A visa is issued by the country's government prior to arrival. Visa requirements vary from country to country depending on the length of time and purpose of your stay. You will need to contact the nearest consulate for the country you will be visiting and ask about the visa requirements. Please check with your Eller Global Advisor to inquire about whether your program requires a student visa.
Health and Safety Resources
Students should review information regarding health and safety abroad. Below are some resources:

- Educate yourself about current health issues where you will be going and the available medical services. Please search for information on the country(ies) you will be traveling to using the following websites:
- Make an appointment with the Campus Health Immunizations and Travel Clinic, your primary care physician, and/or mental health practitioner to discuss any health needs and services you will require abroad
- What medications and immunizations may be necessary based on your destination
- Review your current medical insurance coverage
- Keep a copy of your GeoBlue insurance (international health insurance) card to take abroad with you
- If you are a student with a disability requesting accommodations for your Study Abroad/Exchange experience you will need to register with the sponsoring institutions' disability resource center. Timeline
We suggest using the following timeline to help you prepare and plan for your Study Abroad Experience
- For Summer Instructor-Led Programs - 6-12 Months Prior to Summer Program - Schedule a meeting with an advisor to discuss initial steps in planning to Study Abroad. This includes the academic program requirements and credits as well as financing and scholarship opportunities.
- Plan to attend a Study Abroad Info Session - Spring Semester (for Summer Instructor-led Programs).
- Complete the Application for Study Abroad - Generally by the End of February
- Half payment for Study Abroad - Payment for at least half of the Study Abroad expenses are typically due in Mid-March
- Full payment for Study Abroad - typically due Mid-April
- Summer Travel and Coursework - End of May through the end of June. Check program specifics for actual dates.

Information for Parents
The Norton School and the UA Study Abroad staff will help your student navigate the process and successfully plan an enriching educational experience. Our shared priority is to create the best experience for your student, with the safety and security of a well-managed program that parents and families can feel confident about.
Together, we advise parents to:
- Encourage your student to fully engage in the study abroad pre-departure process, attend all mandatory meetings, and check in regularly with their advisor.
- Make copies of essential documents your student is taking abroad, such as passports, credit/debit cards, and health insurance.
- Talk with your student about what to do when specific challenges arise.
