Step 1.
Place several empty, shallow, flat-bottom cans on your lawn. Standard 'tuna' cans will work, or any simular size can ( 5-7 oz) with a diameter of about 3 3/4". Three or four evenly spaced cans should suffice for a 15' x 15' lawn. Use more cans for larger lawns. |
|
Step 2.
Turn on the sprinklers for exactly 15 minutes. |
|
Step 3.
Measure the depth of water in each can to the nearest tenth of an inch, and record all depths on a piece of paper. If you don't have a ruler marked in tenths of an inch, measure the water depths with a standard ruler and use the tables below to convert the tenths. |
|
Step 4.
Log in to this website and enter the depths of water in each can to determine the proper amount of time to run your irrigation system. |

Helpful Hints :
1. Cans: Use tuna or cat food cans. 2. Avoid placing cans close to the sprinkler heads     or near the edge of your lawn area. 3. If you water only part of your lawn at one time,     repeat the test for each area. |
