Databases of Soil Publications
The databases listed below are bibliographic databasesthey provide
information about publications. The coverage varies from database to
database. The most comprehensive databases covering soils of arid regions
are CAB ABSTRACTS and PASCAL. There may be considerable overlap between
various databases, but there is some unique coverage for each. Links
to database descriptions by the producers and links to home pages of
the database producers are provided for those which have web sites.
Most database producers offer a document delivery service, which would
be described on their web sites. Your local library may also offer an
Inter-Library Loan service that will help you get the publications you
need.

The AGRIS International
database is a cooperative, decentralized system in which over 100
national and multinational centers take part. Each country which participates
in AGRIS does so by submitting information about documents published
within its own territories. All contributing sources are of non-U.S.
origin. The Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) of the United Nations acts as a coordinating
agency, facilitating the exchange of agricultural information to the
participating countries.

NTIS: The National Technical
Information Service database consists of summaries of U.S. government-sponsored
research, development, and engineering, plus analyses prepared by
federal agencies, their contractors, or grantees. It is the means
through which unclassified reports are made available for sale from
government agencies. Some state and local government agencies also
contribute summaries of their reports to the database. NTIS also provides
access to the results of government-sponsored research and development
from countries outside the U.S. Organizations that currently contribute
to the NTIS database include: the Japan Ministry of International
Trade and Industry (MITI); laboratories administered by the United
Kingdom Department of Industry; the German Federal Ministry of Research
and Technology (BMFT); the French National Center for Scientific Research
(CNRS); and many more.
The NTIS database represents the reports of three major U.S. federal
government agencies: U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department
of Defense (DOD), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA), plus many other non-U.S. agencies located throughout the world.
NTIS is produced by the National Technical Information Service, U.S.
Department of Commerce.

Water Resources
Abstracts offers a comprehensive range of water-related topics
in the life and physical sciences, as well as the engineering and
legal aspects of the conservation, control, use, and management of
water. Though the focus of the database is water, there is considerable
information about soils in arid regions related to irrigation, erosion,
pollution, soil moisture and evapotranspiration. The database, initiated
in 1968, was produced by the U.S. Geological Survey until 1994, and
is now produced by Cambridge Scientific Abstracts.
