- NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials), created in the early 1990’s, provides information, education, and assistance to local land use boards and commissions on how they can accommodate growth while protecting their natural resources and community character. NEMO is unique and innovative in several ways: in its use of geographic
information system and remote sensing technology as educational tools; in its promotion of land use planning rather than mechanical devices as the primary weapon against water pollution, and; in its steadfast focus on local land use decision makers as the primary target audience.
- NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials) - Arizona
- Arizona NEMO is a charter member of the National NEMO Network. The mission of the NEMO Network is to help communities protect their natural resources while still accommodating growth. NEMO is concerned with any issue related to water quality or quantity in the state of Arizona. Arizona NEMO will help improve water quality by developing realistic
watershed-based plans to achieve water quality standards and protection
goals for three initial watersheds: the Bill Williams, Upper Gila, and
the Verde River. These will be followed by plans for the Little
Colorado, Agua Fria, and San Pedro Rivers. These plans will identify
areas that are susceptible to water quality problems and pollution,
sources that need to be controlled, and management measures that must
be implemented to protect or improve water quality.
