MEASURES: Presence
and Participation
Measures for these indicators are usually
quite simple, and best developed at the local site. Standardized
measures will usually not be appropriate. Sources of data for presence
include program registration forms (with background information on children
and their families), program attendance records, and program completion
records. Additional information on the child's active participation
or engagement in program activities might be gained from simple surveys
or interviews with children and their parents/guardians, or from simple
checklists completed by teachers or program staff. For more information
on making effective use of existing program data and records, see the following:

Chapter 8 of this book in particular includes
useful information on designing program forms and records that provide
useful information for evaluation, and on using data from existing program
documents.
