Unit 1: Positive Youth Development
Provides an overview of the rationale for developing and implementing high quality programs for young people.

Unit 2: Physical and Psychological Safety
Provides an overview of the importance of intentionality when designing and implementing high quality youth programs with a specific focus on physical and emotional safety.

Unit 3: Building Supportive Relationships
Provides an overview of the role that supportive relationships play in promoting positive development.

Unit 4: Creating Opportunities to Belong
Provides an overview of the role of the youth development professional in creating opportunities for all young people to connect with peers and adults.

Unit 5: Promoting Social Norms
Provides an overview of the role that youth development plays in promoting positive social norms within the program.

Unit 6: Developing Appropriate Structures
Provides an overview of the importance of appropriate structures in regard to the positive development of young people. Specifically, this unit addresses the importance of setting and maintaining expectations, development of appropriate activities and the role of the youth development professional.

Unit 7: Supporting Efficacy and Mattering
Provides an overview of the importance of providing the supports and opportunities needed for young people to become active and contributing members of their community.

Unit 8: Promoting Skill Development
Provides an overview of the role of youth programs in providing young people the opportunity to learn new skills (e.g. leadership, problem solving, conflict resolution, public speaking, technical job skills).

Unit 9: Fostering Integration of Home, School and Community
Explores how youth programs can serve as catalysts for bringing parents, teachers, community members and young people together to address issues relevant to the community as a whole.
