WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION A national wildland fire science workshop is being organized by the US Geological Survey (USGS), with support and cooperation from the University of Arizona, School of Natural Resources and others. Workshop Themes: Highlight current USGS fire science activities Inform participants of current USGS and cooperator fire science information and the capacity for fire related research Focus on fire issues in western states Plan future direction for the USGS fire science program Diverse Program and Poster Session: The workshop will be 3 1/2 days with an all-day field trip on Dec. 7 to the Santa Catalina Mountains just north of Tucson (see draft program agenda). A poster session/social will be held the evening of Dec. 6 (see call for posters) Current fire science and research results that relate to fire management issues in the western states will be featured
Status of current USGS and cooperator wildland fire science A day-long field trip to the Santa Catalina Mountains which will address current fire science and related management issues (see draft itinerary) Management implications of current fire science issues Charting a pathway for future fire research in the USGS and collaborating agencies and partners of interest Building the case for stronger fire related science into the national USGS strategy and the future Target Audience: USGS and other federal scientists Federal, state and private sector land managers and natural resource professionals University researchers, educators and graduate students Non-government organizations involved in land and fire management |
