A partnership between the Cooperative Extension System and the Department of Defense has provided the funding for a national youth and professional development internship program. Through this initiative, college students have the opportunity to develop professional skills in youth development, small and large group facilitation, critical thinking, and program management and to gain critical hands-on experience working with military children, youth, and families. Interns also complete an individually tailored career-broadening project under the guidance of an individually assigned mentor.
Interns will dedicate at least one weekend per month to provide youth development programs supporting children and youth of reserve component military families impacted by military deployments. Project YES facilitates on-site youth programs supporting the Department of Defense Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program (YRRP), therefore providing an opportunity for travel throughout all 50 states and US territories. To date, Project YES has served over 24,000 military youth throughout 49 states, 4 US territories, and Germany.
Project YES is hosted by North Carolina State University, however, interns are NOT required to be NC State University students nor required to move to North Carolina. Project YES interns may attend any US accredited college or university and continue to be active students of their home college or university for the duration of the internship.
This is a 12-month internship with effective dates of June 2019 - May 2020. Selected interns must participate in the 2018 Project YES intern orientation to be held May 17-26, 2019 at NC State University.
