New herbicides have continually been developed and registered for what have been major acreage field crops in Arizona such as cotton, alfalfa and wheat.
Few new herbicides have been developed for minor acreage, high value vegetable crops. New registrations have instead been for new formulations or application
techniques of older products. It is likely that vegetable growers will continue to rely on hand labor, cultivation and established herbicides to control weeds.
Advances in robotic, in-row cultivators are expected. You can view the presentation that was made on this subject at the Southwest Ag Summit on March 11, 2010
