Results of pheromone and sticky trap catches can be viewed
here. Corn earworm: CEW moth activity remains low throughout the area. Beet armyworm: Beet armyworm moth activity increased in all traps and has hit a seasonal high for the spring, comparable to last season. Cabbage looper: Cabbage looper moth activity hit a seasonal high last week trap counts higher than we observed in the fall for several locations (Wellton/Roll). Whitefly: Adults captures on sticky traps continue to be at seasonal low levels. Thrips: Thrips movement increased significantly last week due to warmer weather and shrinking lettuce acreage in the Yuma Valley. Aphids: Aphid trap catches peaked last week in the eastern part of Yuma County; the majority of aphids captured were green peach aphid. Leafminers: Adult fly movement increased in the Dome and Gila Valley traps. Diamondback moth: Moths continue to be very active in many Yuma Valley traps locations, and are reaching seasonal high numbers in the Gila Valley and Wellton. As we’ve seen most of the spring, moth numbers in general are significantly higher than trap capture during this time period from 1999-2001. Overall, DBM flight activity remains highest in the north Yuma Valley in traps near recently disked-broccoli or seed crop plantings.
