Lettuce Price (Feb. 24, 2010)

The International Supermarket News page informed last December that the price of lettuce rose up 300% in New York due to adverse weather in the growing regions of California. In one month 1 head of Iceberg went from $ .89 to $2.49, Romaine from $1.99 to $2.99. Certainly the low supply pushed prices higher than usual. Produceone Inc. reported February 17th 2010 the following for Western Arizona on Iceberg: Prices slightly higher. Cartons film lined 24s mostly 6.05-7.15, filmwrapped 24s mostly 7.05-8.15. For Romaine cartons (24s) the price was $5.00-$6.05. Even though the prices are lower this market report estimates that similar shipments are expected to continue. We also talked to a sales office from a Yuma harvesting company and they informed that shipments are made nationwide now with better weather conditions.
