Grading
Grading policy:
Grades will be based on the
total cumulative number of points attained at the end of the semester.
Final grades for this class will be assigned on a standard grading scale
based on an in class presentation, participation in discussions,
homework assignments, quizzes, a midterm hour exam and a final exam.
Homework and Quiz Policy: Homework assignments and
quizzes will contribute 100 points to your final grade. Homework
assignments are due the class period after they are assigned and are
worth 10 points each. Homework turned in one period after the due date
will receive a maximum of 5 points and no credit will be given after
that time, although all homework will be reviewed and returned.
Subjective Evaluation:
Your general participation in the course will be assessed based on
attendance at lectures, effort, enthusiasm, preparedness, and class
participation during discussions.
Examination Policy: The midterm examination will be worth
100 points and will emphasize the material presented in lecture and
reading assignments. The final will be a cumulative examination worth
150 points.
Oral Presentation: Each student will select a topic of
personal interest in the area of biotechnology, research the topic and
lead a 15-20 minute in-class discussion of the topic. The oral
presentation will contribute 100 points to your final grade.

B 80-89.9%

Make-up Policy:
Make-up exams are strongly discouraged
and allowed at the discretion of the instructor. Make-up exams must be
taken within one week following the original exam date.
