Fire Ecology I
Pine-eucalyptus plantation on the island of Kythera, five years after a fire. Pinus halepensis and Eucalyptus camaldulensis, both introduced to the island, and done much to replicate the fire-dominated landscapes that Kythereans know through their contacts with Australia. Exceptionally in Europe, this eucalyptus not only sprouts after a fire but (like pine) grows from seed too. August 2000 |
